1. What happens during the cremation process?

Cremation is the process that reduces dead human remains to 3-7 pounds of organic and inorganic compounds and it accomplishes this by exposing the body to intense heat and flame for a 1.5 - 2 hour duration, at temperatures of approximately 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. After the cremation, the cremated remains are mechanically processed until they have the consistency of very course sand.

2. Are cremations more expensive than traditional burial?

Setting aside cultural and religious beliefs, probably the number one reason people choose cremation over burial is most likely due to its financial practicality. The simplicity and convenience of the cremation process is also more appealing to a growing number of Filipinos.

Cremation is more affordable compared to the traditional burialsince there is no need to buy a cemetery lot and the casket may be rented or not needed at all.

3. How long does it take to cremate a body?

The cremation can take between 2 to 3 hours to complete. The actual time depends on the physical size and weight of the body being cremated.

4. Is a casket required for a cremation service?

Generally, no. During the cremation process there is no need for a casket as the body is placed directly into the retort, however for purposes of Pre-cremation rites/services The Haven Crematory offers affordable Ceremonial Casket rentals. This ceremonial casket is where the body will be temporarily placed before being finally entered into the retort or cremation chamber.

5. Do I have to buy a urn for the ashes?

Generally speaking, yes. The crematory is not allowed to release cremated remains unless they are place in an appropriate container which is the Urn. The Haven Crematory places the ashes inside a leak proof plastic bag and into the urn provided.

6. Is embalming required prior to cremation?

No, embalming is not required for direct cremation. As long as the decedent died within 24 hours.

7. Does the Roman Catholic Church allow cremation?

Most Christian denominations including the Roman Catholic Church allow cremation. The Roman Catholic Church has allowed cremation since 1963.

8. What can I do with the cremated remains after the cremation service?

Cremated remains can be interred in a family cemetery plot, scattered at sea or over land, they can be placed in a niche in a cemetery columbarium, or entombed in a cemetery community or private mausoleum. Cremated remains can also be kept at home or in special keepsake containers.
